Well, I’m sure you’ve all heard about the Australian DJs who pranked a hospital nurse into giving details of the Duchess of Cambridge’s health during her stay in hospital recently. The thing went global with Conan O’Brien giving it some airtime and the 2 DJs themselves boasting about it incessantly on Twitter under the hashtag #royalprank.
What the DJs will wake up to this morning though is the news that the nurse they got to transfer the call through to the ward, who was undoubtedly fearing for her job entire career, has committed suicide. I don’t know if my countrymen know this, but patient data, particularly that of royalty is a very serious fucking business. The nurse was very rightly concerned over the events.
What I hope happens next is:
a) the DJs are sacked, and
b) the nurse has hoaxed the idiots back and is actually alive and well.
Sadly, neither of these will probably happen.
EDIT: As I sit here and type this, I am streaming 2Day FM and they are STILL promoting the prank and giggling about it.
EDIT2: And now @MContheradio appears to have followed Mel Greig and also deleted his Twitter account.
Suicide is a verb in Australia.

I’m beginning to think a lot of things have changed. Causing someone traumatic humiliation never used to be ‘funny’.
I hear you…very disappointed in my compatriots down under
Kym, this is not an Ozzie pommie thing as the dehumanizing of society is equal on both ends of the globe. What we are seeing here with the meedya is a result of their continual campaign to break down moral standards.
This is the Long Road that those that will kill us are on, have been on and are making big progress on. With all due respect to the dead I find Lord Haw Haw’s disdain contemptible.
I’ve just realised that you’ve turned “Prank” from a noun to a verb too.
It must be genetic.
Indeed. You can take the girl out of Australia…
Side note: I’m back in hospital for another operation tomorrow morning. Rapidly trying to remove all trace of Aussie accent.
This amazing blog, “Two Brain Cells And A Microphone |
The Vegemite Wife” displays that you really know just what u r talking about!
